Shiva Palace by Golden Leaf is the only hotel in Haldwani with a children's pool separate from the adult one, which makes it the natural choice for families. The Moksha Divine has the largest pool by surface area and suits longer, relaxing stays. Country Ambience Hotel has a quiet resort-style pool away from the city centre. Fortune Walkway Mall (ITC Hotels Group) is the only hotel with an indoor pool you can use all year. Hotel Maplewood Premier has a pool, but it is mainly for wedding guests. Rooms cost ₹2,800 to ₹9,500, with 25 to 40 percent extra in summer. Outdoor pools are warm enough to swim in from March to mid-November.

The price ranges are for standard rooms, midweek, in the shoulder season. Add 25 to 40 percent for the summer peak from April to June and for the New Year period in late December.
No pool in Haldwani has a more romantic setting. Because it is on the roof, an evening swim looks out over the Kumaon foothills, and on clear mornings from October to February you can see the distant snow line. The pool is mid-sized, with room for four or five swimmers at once. The pool bar is open from 5 to 9 PM in the summer months.
Where it shines: Couples, anniversary stays and photographers. Breakfast is also served on the roof, so the pool area is well kept.
Where it does not: There is no separate children's pool, so it is not the best choice for families with children under 7.

This is the only hotel in Haldwani with a children's pool that is truly separate. It is shallow (around 0.6 m), has its own filtration and is supervised during the busiest family hours, 10 AM to 1 PM and 4 to 7 PM. The outdoor adult pool, of standard depth, is right next to it. Family suites for four are available.
Where it shines: Families with children under 10, school-holiday trips and groups spanning several generations.
Where it does not: Because it is built around families, it is not very romantic, and the pool area is busy with children at peak hours.

This is the largest pool by surface area in Haldwani, set in a resort-style layout with loungers, towel service by the pool and a café alongside. The pool is of standard depth throughout, apart from a small shallow area at one end that suits older children if a parent is watching.
Where it shines: Stays of three nights or more where the hotel itself is the holiday, travellers who want a lounger and a book, and couples who want a resort feel without driving up into the hills.
Where it does not: It is further from Kathgodam station, which makes it less practical for a single night on the way somewhere.

This resort-style hotel is on the quieter outskirts of Haldwani. Its pool is mid-sized and almost never crowded, because the hotel is off the usual tourist routes. There is seating on the lawn around the pool, which is pleasant for reading in the late afternoon.
Where it shines: Couples looking for calm, writers and other creative travellers, and anyone who finds the city centre noisy.
Where it does not: There is not much choice of food on site, and you will eat most of your meals at the hotel.

This is the only pool in Haldwani you can use all year, because it is indoors and heated. It is the usual small size for a hotel fitness centre, a single-lane lap pool of around 12 m, with a gym and changing rooms next to it. Because the hotel is attached to the mall, coffee and casual food are close at hand, and you need not go back out into the winter cold.
Where it shines: Travellers from December to February, when outdoor pools are too cold, business stays and ITC loyalty members.
Where it does not: The pool is functional rather than attractive. Outdoor pools beat it on everything except being open in winter and in any weather.

Maplewood does have a pool, but the hotel is run around its banquet business. On wedding-season weekends (November to February, plus summer wedding dates) the pool is kept mainly for wedding guests, and the hours for other guests are shorter. On an ordinary midweek stay outside the wedding months, you can use the pool freely.
Where it shines: Wedding parties where the whole side is staying at the venue, and people visiting the city midweek in the shoulder months.
Where it does not: Anyone for whom the pool matters most. If the pool is why you are booking, choose Blue Saphire Countryside or The Moksha Divine instead.

When booking sites say a pool is open "year-round", that is true on paper but misleading in practice. Outdoor pool water in Haldwani is comfortable for swimming from roughly March 15 to November 20. Outside those dates the water falls below 18 °C, and most hotels either drain the pool, open it for shorter hours or leave it full but cold.
Best months for the pool: April, May and June, when on hot days the pool really does save your afternoon, and September and October, when the water is warm and the crowds are light.
In-between months: March and November. You can swim, but the mornings are cool, so wait until the sun has warmed things up.
Closed or limited: December, January and February for outdoor pools. The indoor pool at Fortune Walkway Mall is the only dependable place to swim in Haldwani in winter.

Wedding venues guide1. Check the pool is open on your dates. At most hotels, outdoor pools close for maintenance on one weekday morning each fortnight. If you are coming for two nights, ask the booking desk to confirm the pool hours for both of your full days, not just the day you check in.
2. Check the water in winter. For December to February stays, hotels with outdoor pools often still say "pool available" on booking sites because the pool exists, even though the water is cold or the pool has been drained. Email or call to check.
3. Ask how deep the children's pool is and who watches it. At Shiva Palace the children's pool is supervised at peak hours. At Blue Saphire and Moksha Divine the shallow areas are part of the main pool, so parents have to keep watch.
4. Find out when food is served by the pool. Blue Saphire and Moksha Divine serve at the pool from 4 to 9 PM in the summer months. At Country Ambience and Shiva Palace you order through the main restaurant, so plan for that.
5. Towels and changing rooms. All six hotels give you pool towels at no extra charge. Only Fortune Walkway Mall has proper gym changing rooms with showers; the others have simple changing corners next to the pool.
