The short answer: a couple-friendly overnight room in Nainital town runs about Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,650 plus tax in the off-season and climbs to Rs 2,600 to Rs 4,200 at the May-June summer peak, with a sharper spike over New Year. The “from Rs 843” rate you see advertised is misleading: on OYO’s couple filter that price is either a day-stay slot that ends at 8 PM or a property in Bhowali, 22 km down the hill, not an overnight room in the lake town. The cheapest honest month is mid-July to mid-September, when the monsoon empties the town and rates sit at their floor. The most expensive are May, June and the 24 December to 2 January window. If price is the whole question, staying in Haldwani, 38 km down, and driving up cuts the room rate roughly in half.

Nainital is a seasonal-pricing town in the extreme. Across all hotels the cheapest month averages under Rs 2,000 a night and the dearest averages many times that, because a lake-view room in a May school holiday and the same room in a wet July are effectively two different products at two different prices.
For the couple-friendly tier specifically, the band is narrower but the pattern is the same. An overnight room at one of the three genuine couple-tagged options in Nainital town sat between Rs 1,208 and Rs 1,642 plus tax when we checked on 7 August 2026, which is late monsoon and near the yearly floor. Hold that same room over a May weekend and you are looking at more than double.
So a single “price” for a Nainital couple hotel does not exist. What exists is a rate that moves across five distinct seasons, and knowing which season you are booking into is worth more than any discount code.
OYO’s couple-friendly page for Nainital advertises rooms “from Rs 843”. That number is real, but it is not an overnight room in the lake town, and understanding why is the whole point of reading a price list before you book.
On the day we checked, the Rs 843 rate belonged to Townhouse Bhimtal University Bhowali, which is a day-stay slot running 8 AM to 8 PM and sits on the Bhowali-Bhimtal road about 22 km from Naini Lake. It is not a room for the night and it is not in Nainital. The next cheapest, at Rs 845, was Collection O Bhowali, a genuine overnight room but still 11 km out near the Bhimtal bus depot.
The cheapest real overnight room inside Nainital town was Hotel O Summer King at Rs 1,208 plus tax, followed by Collection O Mall Road at Rs 1,642. That is the honest floor for a couple stay in the town itself, and it is roughly double the advertised headline. The structural reason Nainital rooms cost what they do is altitude and demand: a lake town with fixed room stock and a summer rush prices accordingly. Haldwani, 38 km down the hill at the railhead, has neither constraint, so the same night costs roughly half.
A couple-friendly room in Haldwani runs from about Rs 799 to Rs 1,500 year-round, without the May-June doubling, and the drive up to Naini Lake is 90 minutes. If you would rather be in Nainital itself, book the shoulder season, October-November or March-April, when the rate is reasonable and the mountain views are at their clearest.
Book the season, not the discount. A shoulder-season weekday at rack rate is cheaper than a peak-season room with 30 percent off. The month you choose matters more than any coupon.
Travel midweek. A Tuesday-to-Thursday stay avoids the weekend premium that applies in every season and is largest at the summer peak.
