The word “hourly hotel” puts people off. It sounds shady. In Haldwani, at a licensed hotel, it is not. A slot booking is just a short paid stay. Both are near the Roadways bus stand at Tikonia on Nainital Road. Perfect for a couple in transit or a short afternoon. Check-in is fast, six to eight minutes. The room is plain, clean, well-lit, with a working geyser. What you do not get: room service, an evening restaurant, a lift. What you do get: a private, licensed hotel room with a fresh sheet.
The 6-hour slot. This is the sweet spot for a couple on a day trip from Nainital, Bhimtal or Kainchi Dham. Four hotels run 6-hour slots. Castle Inn and President are at Rs 899 to Rs 1,100 (walk-in) and Rs 1,099 to Rs 1,299 (Brevistay). Friends and Surya extend the 3-hour rate to 6 hours at Rs 1,199 and Rs 1,299. The 6-hour slot at Castle Inn and President adds room service, a lift, and a quiet corridor. If your return drive is at 8 PM, book a 2 PM to 8 PM slot at Castle Inn. Shower, nap, and pay less than a Nainital highway lunch.
The 12-hour slot. The premium option. Blue Saphire Countryside and Maplewood Premier both open 12-hour Brevistay slots from 8 AM to 8 PM (or 8 PM to 8 AM). Rates are Rs 2,400 to Rs 3,200 depending on the season. The 12-hour rate at Blue Saphire includes rooftop pool access. It also includes breakfast if your slot crosses 8 AM to 10 AM. Maplewood adds a quiet weekend afternoon vibe, useful for an anniversary or birthday. Both hotels treat the 12-hour slot as a soft full-night: same room, same cleaning, same key card, half the price of an overnight.

The ID rule for a 6-hour couple stay is the same as a full-night booking. Every hotel in this guide told us the same three-point rule on the phone:
Both partners show ID. The Police Act register entry lists both adults with name, address and ID number. This is a legal requirement and cannot be waived, even for a 3-hour slot. A hotel that offers to write only one name in the register is breaking the law. Walk away.
Aadhaar is accepted at all six. Original card or the eAadhaar PDF, both work. Voter ID, passport and driving licence are also accepted. PAN card alone is not enough because it has no address on it.
Surnames do not have to match. This is the most common worry, and the answer is short: no. All six front desks confirmed that different surnames on the two Aadhaar cards are the normal case, not a reason to refuse. The Uttarakhand UCC live-in rule, in force since January 2025, applies to couples living together for more than a month in the state. It does not apply to a 6 or 12-hour hotel slot.

Three ways to book a slot in Haldwani in 2026. Each suits a different couple.

Bag2Bag. Lists three Haldwani hotels: Castle Inn, President and Maplewood. Rates are 8 to 12 percent below Brevistay for the same slot. The catch: the booking confirmation is manual and can take 20 to 40 minutes to reach the hotel. A few bookings arrive at a desk that has not received the confirmation yet. If you have time and want to save Rs 150 to Rs 300, Bag2Bag is the value pick.
Walk-in phone booking. Cheapest of the three, 15 to 25 percent below both apps. Call the hotel between 2 PM and 5 PM the same day. Tell the desk which slot you want. Pay in cash on arrival. This is how most people in Haldwani book. The catch: no digital record if the hotel changes its mind at the door. The workaround is easy: ask the desk to confirm on WhatsApp and take a screenshot. Our simple call. First-time slot in Haldwani, use Brevistay. After one stay at Castle Inn or Blue Saphire, once you know the front desk, switch to a phone booking for your next visit. The switch saves Rs 200 to Rs 500 per slot. It takes four minutes.
Slot bookings need one extra question on top of the standard three-question call for couple-friendly hotels. Ask them in this order, between 2 PM and 5 PM, the day before or the morning of the slot:
1. “Do you accept Aadhaar for both partners, with no marriage certificate?” A clear yes, no dithering. If the person on the line pauses, hangs, or asks you to send a photo of both cards first, that is the wrong hotel.
2. “Is the slot policy the same in the day shift and the night shift?” This is the trap that ruins most couple slot bookings. Some hotels say yes at 3 PM and a different desk staff member says no at 10 PM. Ask on the phone. The correct answer is “yes, same policy across all 24 hours, written in our desk book”.
3. “What is the walk-in cash rate for the slot, and is it different from Brevistay?” This tells you the real price and confirms the desk has the authority to take a walk-in slot. A hotel that will only quote the Brevistay page and will not name a cash rate is one where the app is the only way in.
4. “What happens if we run over by 30 minutes?” The normal answer is a free 15 to 30 minute buffer. Castle Inn and Maplewood both said 30 minutes. After that, one extra hour is billed at about one-sixth of the slot rate. Knowing this beforehand saves a fifteen-minute argument at check-out.
