All twenty trains that arrive at or leave Kathgodam, with their times at Haldwani and Kathgodam, the days they run, the cities they connect, and the ones this winter’s fog list has already cancelled.
The short answer: ten trains arrive at Kathgodam and ten leave it, and every one of them starts or ends here, because Kathgodam is where the railway line stops at the foot of the hills. Five pairs run daily: the Shatabdi to New Delhi, the Uttarakhand Sampark Kranti and the Ranikhet Express to Delhi Junction (the Ranikhet Express runs on to Jaipur and Jaisalmer), the Bagh Express to Lucknow and Howrah, and the Dehradun Express. Two pairs run five days a week, the Naini Doon Jan Shatabdi to Dehradun and the Lucknow Express, and three run once a week, to Jammu, Kanpur and Mumbai. The first arrival is at 05:05 and the last at 23:40. Every train also stops at Haldwani, 6 to 7 km down the line. For this winter, the railways have already cancelled the Jammu and Kanpur Garib Raths from early December to early March.
In order of arrival time. Days are the days the train reaches Kathgodam; for the long-distance trains that is a day or two after they leave home.

Times as published in the railway timetable and compared on 19 October 2026 across three booking sites; where they differed by a few minutes, we give the time two of them agreed on. The Mumbai train’s times also match those given by North Eastern Railway when it was made a regular train in May 2026. Railway timetables change, so check your train on the railway’s NTES enquiry or IRCTC before you travel.
Delhi. Three daily trains: the Shatabdi from New Delhi, and the Sampark Kranti and the overnight Ranikhet Express from Delhi Junction. None of the other Kathgodam trains goes through Delhi. Which to book, fares and winter delays are in our guide to the Delhi to Kathgodam train.
Ghaziabad and Moradabad. The three Delhi trains all call at Ghaziabad, and they, the two Dehradun trains and the Jammu Garib Rath all pass through Moradabad, which gives Moradabad the widest choice on the line.
Lucknow and Kanpur. The Bagh Express comes through Lucknow every night, the Lucknow–Kathgodam Express leaves Lucknow Junction at 23:25 five nights a week, and the Kanpur Garib Rath calls at Lucknow on Tuesday mornings. All three also stop at Bareilly.
Dehradun and Haridwar. Two trains: the overnight Dehradun Express, daily, and the daytime Naini Doon Jan Shatabdi, five days a week. Both call at Haridwar.
Jaipur and Rajasthan. The Ranikhet Express starts at Jaisalmer and runs through Jodhpur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Alwar and Gurgaon before Delhi, so it is the direct train from all of them.
Howrah, Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The daily Bagh Express runs from Howrah through Asansol, Barauni, Muzaffarpur, Chhapra, Siwan, Gorakhpur and Gonda, and takes about 36 hours.
Jammu and Punjab. The weekly Garib Rath leaves Jammu Tawi on Sunday night and calls at Pathankot, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Saharanpur, reaching Kathgodam on Monday afternoon. It is one of the two trains already cancelled for this winter.
Mumbai and Gujarat. The Mumbai Central–Kathgodam Superfast runs once a week through Surat, Vadodara, Ratlam, Kota and Mathura. It began as a weekly special and became a regular train on 27 May 2026.
Every Kathgodam train stops at Haldwani too, about half an hour before Kathgodam, and no train stops at Haldwani without going on to Kathgodam. If your hotel is in Haldwani, near the bus stand or the city centre, get off at Haldwani. If you are going straight up to Nainital, Bhimtal or Kainchi Dham, stay on to Kathgodam, where the hill road starts outside the station.
Some trains stop short of both. Several long-distance trains end at Lal Kuan, about 23 km before Kathgodam: among them the Lal Kuan to Anand Vihar Express and trains from Bandra, Howrah, Bengaluru, Amritsar and Kasganj, most of them weekly. If your ticket says Lal Kuan, you will finish the trip by road. The Corbett Park Link Express and the other Ramnagar trains run on a different line through Kashipur and do not come near Haldwani.
Kathgodam station, code KGM, belongs to North Eastern Railway’s Izzatnagar division. It opened in 1884 and marked 142 years on 12 October 2026, and it is one of the stations included in the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for redevelopment.
From December to February, fog on the plains slows every train into Kathgodam, and the railways cancel some for the season. On 15 and 16 October 2026 the Moradabad division announced its list, and Northern Railway’s wider list of 46 trains followed on 19 October. Two Kathgodam trains are on it: the Jammu Garib Rath (12207 and 12208) and the Kanpur Garib Rath (12209 and 12210), cancelled from the first week of December 2026 to early March 2027. The Lal Kuan to Amritsar trains (14615 and 14616) are off for the season too.
North Eastern Railway, which runs the Sampark Kranti, the Ranikhet Express, the Lucknow Express and the Jan Shatabdi, had not published its own list by 19 October. Last winter it took the Sampark Kranti off three days a week from 2 December 2025, so a list for this winter may come in November; we will add it here. Delays have already begun: Amar Ujala reported the Sampark Kranti reaching Kathgodam at 00:30 on 17 October against its 22:45 time, and the same report said the Ranikhet Express and the Bagh Express were waitlisted in every class for the following seven days.
Taxis and shared jeeps wait outside Kathgodam station. Nainital is about 35 km up the hill, Bhimtal closer and Kainchi Dham a little further; routes and fares are in our Haldwani to Nainital guide and our guide to Kainchi Dham. Three trains reach Kathgodam in the dark: the Ranikhet Express at 05:05 and, at the other end of the day, the Sampark Kranti at 22:45 and the Jan Shatabdi at 23:40. In winter, when shaded bends on the hill road freeze, it is wiser to sleep near the station after a late arrival and go up the next morning; the hotels near Kathgodam station are a few minutes away.
Ten trains leave Kathgodam and ten arrive. Five leave every day (the Sampark Kranti, the Shatabdi, the Dehradun Express, the Ranikhet Express and the Bagh Express), two more run five days a week, and three are weekly, so between five departures on a Wednesday and eight on a Monday, Tuesday or Thursday.
All of them, because the line ends at Kathgodam. In the order they leave: the Jan Shatabdi to Dehradun at 05:25, the Sampark Kranti to Delhi at 08:40, the Lucknow Express at 11:15, the Shatabdi to New Delhi at 15:15, the weekly trains to Mumbai, Kanpur and Jammu between 17:30 and 18:15, the Dehradun Express at 19:55, the Ranikhet Express at 20:35 and the Bagh Express to Howrah at 21:50.
Yes. The railway line from Bareilly and Lal Kuan ends at Kathgodam, at the foot of the Kumaon hills, and every train that runs there starts or ends its run at the station. Beyond it the trip to Nainital, Bhimtal or Kainchi Dham is by road.
Get off at Haldwani if your hotel is in the city, and stay on to Kathgodam if you are going straight up to Nainital, Bhimtal or Kainchi Dham, because the hill road starts there. Every train stops at both, about half an hour apart, and the stations are 6 to 7 km apart by rail.
For winter 2026-27 the railways have cancelled the Jammu Garib Rath (12207 and 12208) and the Kanpur Garib Rath (12209 and 12210) from the first week of December to early March. North Eastern Railway had not published its list by 19 October 2026; last winter it cancelled the Sampark Kranti to Delhi on three days a week from 2 December.
