The short answer: Rampur Road in Haldwani is a 4 km commercial road linking Kathgodam to the city centre, and it is home to STMCH, Haldwani's largest hospital, and the main bus stand. Eight hotels are on the road or within 500 m of it, at Rs 800 to 6,500 a night. Our first choice is Hotel Blue Saphire Countryside, which has a rooftop pool and starts at Rs 3,800. If you are looking after a patient at STMCH, Hotel Surya is the closest to the hospital, from Rs 800. If you have a bus to catch, Hotel Park Land is a 200 m walk from the bus stand, from Rs 2,200. What Rampur Road is like

Rampur Road runs for 4 km through the commercial heart of Haldwani, from near Kathgodam in the south to the city centre in the north. Two places define it. One is Sushila Tiwari Memorial Combined Hospital (STMCH), the largest government hospital in Kumaon. The other is the ISBT Haldwani bus stand, where most buses leave for Almora, Pithoragarh, Nainital and Delhi.

It is a loud, busy, commercial road. Autos run its whole length for Rs 30 to 50, and shared tempos go to Kathgodam station for Rs 15 in about 10 minutes. Visitors usually care about three things here. The first is being near the hospital, because families looking after a patient want a room close to STMCH. The second is transport, with the bus stand halfway along the road. The third is price, since no part of Haldwani has more budget hotels.

It is two hundred metres from the ISBT gate, so you can walk to the 5:30 AM bus to Almora or the late-night sleeper to Delhi without arranging transport. What hotels cost on Rampur Road.

Under Rs 1,000, there is only Hotel Surya, from Rs 800. It is a good choice because the rooms are clean and it is right by STMCH.

Rs 900 to 1,500 gets you Hotel Friends, Hotel Sharda or Hotel OK, the budget hotels around the bus stand. They are plain and functional, and best for a single night between buses.

Rs 1,300 to 2,200 is the range at Hotel Castle Inn, a mid-budget hotel a little off the main road on Nawabi Road, and quieter for it.

Rs 2,000 to 3,400 covers the mid-range hotels, Motimahal Inn and Hotel Park Land, with better rooms, their own food and dependable service.
