The short answer: Kusumkhera is a quiet residential area in north-west Haldwani, 4 km from Kathgodam Junction. It has four small hotels and guest houses, charging Rs 800 to Rs 2,200 a night. It suits visitors staying a while and people visiting family who would rather avoid the traffic between Kathgodam and Rampur Road. Where Kusumkhera sits in Haldwani

Kusumkhera is a residential colony in the north-west of Haldwani, roughly between Kamaluwaganja Road and the Gaula River side. It is about 4 km from Kathgodam Junction and 3.5 km from the ISBT bus stand. Unlike Nainital Road or Rampur Road, it was built mainly as a housing colony, so the lanes are narrower, there is less commercial traffic and the nights are noticeably quieter.

It is not the quickest place to set off for the hills from, and Nainital Road is better for that. But if you are visiting family here, working in town for weeks rather than days, or simply prefer a residential street to a hotel facing a highway, Kusumkhera gives you something the busier roads cannot, which is real quiet.

If you are here for work, you may well be in Haldwani for weeks, as government postings, bank transfers and hospital rotations often keep people here that long. The quiet lanes, and the steady Wi-Fi at Hotel Stay Inn, make Kusumkhera a practical base. It is also closer to the Nainital Bank and SBI branches on Kamaluwaganja Road.

It is not the place for a quick night before a trip into the hills. For that, the Nainital Road hotels are better placed for a 5 AM start.

What's around Kusumkhera.

Markets. The Kusumkhera vegetable market is held every morning from about 6:30 AM to 10 AM. For bigger shopping trips, the Kaladhungi Road market (2 km) and the Bhotia Parao market in central Haldwani (4 km) have everything from clothes to electronics.

Restaurants. Kusumkhera itself has small dhabas and sweet shops. For a proper sit-down meal you will need to go to Kamaluwaganja Road (1.5 km) or Nainital Road (3 km). Food delivery apps reach the colony for most dinner orders.

Temples. The Hanuman Mandir near Hotel Nandi is the main temple in the area. The bigger Golu Devta temple at Ghorakhal is a 25 km drive up into the hills.

Medical care. Sushila Tiwari Medical College Hospital (STMCH) is 5 km south on Rampur Road, and there are private clinics on Kamaluwaganja Road within 2 km. For medicines, there are two chemists on the main Kusumkhera road.

Schools. There are several schools in and around Kusumkhera, including branches of DAV and Kendriya Vidyalaya, which makes the area popular with families who have moved here on transfer for a few years.
